Medical Confusion....

Ok so this post is about my Parents. About a year ago the doctors told my dad he had an enlarged liver/fatty liver. But they never really did any further testing beyond that as far as I know. So this month he had an MRI done, actually just last week. And they "saw something", not really sure the whole reasoning, but they wanted to do a whole blood workup and another MRI. So now they tell him he has Hepatitis. When I asked my mom what kind she said the doctor told her A. The thing is, his liver has been enlarged for some time now and isn't HEP A something you contract in a relativly short period of time? I have thought that his liver issues have had to do with his medications, he has been on Darvacet for years which I've heard is horrible for your liver. In the meantime, my moms cholesteral is skyrocketing and she is on Lipitor. Since she's been on it her legs have swelled like balloons and when she talked to her doctor, the same one who has been treating my dads issues, she said, oh no that is NOT a Lipitor side affect. Well apparently it is for my mom.
Honestly I don't think my parents ask the right questions. And they already have said they will switch doctors now that me and my sisters keep telling them this lady doesn't know what she's doing. It is frustrating to me to be 3 hours away and not totally know what is going on except for the fact that my parents don't really know what is going on.
I personally think my dad should have another blood test done, and be taken off the Darvacet. And my mom's medication needs to be switched too. Oh and also, they never told my mom that there is a generic form of Lipitor which would save her over 80 bucks since she is retired and doesn't have insurance at the moment.
Why do we have to get old and sick? I mean, my parents are 62 and 69...my dad the older of the two, so I know these things happen. But when I KNOW they are going to incompitant doctors it frustrates the hell out of me. Besides that, I would like to know for sure if we have to worry about contact etc and my mom seems unsure that it really is HEP A and not C.
So anyway that is my rant. Thanks for "listening".
